See new works from some of the world's top fine furniture makers on public view for the first time.

About the show: Celebrating craft in a league of its own, this exhibition showcases an exciting cross-section of Furniture Masters working throughout the region today. Most of the work is new and on public view for the very first time. Admire beautiful furniture crafted with great care, time, and expertise. Experience a tradition that shaped the region’s artistic heritage. Step into a future full of innovation, talent, and collaboration.

Joined Together: 30 years of the Furniture Masters is supported by Banks Chevrolet-Cadillac-Buick-GMC, Jameson French/Northland Forest Products, Inc, Betsy & Ralph Holmes, and Susan & John Lynch.

    About the artists:

The Furniture Masters continue the proud New England tradition of fine furniture making while also trailblazing a new model of artistic collaboration.

Their members come from New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont. Some of them grew up in woodshops as part of a family line of fine furniture makers. Others found their way to their artistry as adults. Still others got their start as part of a prison outreach program.

To a person, the Furniture Masters demonstrate exceptional craft, mastery, and attention to detail. As a collective, they demonstrate that there is no one way to be a furniture master.

    Why now:

The Furniture Masters mark their 30th anniversary this year. It is a pivotal moment for the group as they build on a legacy of exceptional craftmanship and keep evolving.

The Currier collection reflects New England’s heritage of fine furniture making. Unlike other museums, the Currier has never distinguished between art and craft, creating space for the region’s artisans to be admired as great artists. The Furniture Masters exhibition continues that story.

About 26th Annual Rappaport Art Prize Artist Lecture with Alison Croney Moses

Please join us for a lecture by Alison Croney Moses, the recipient of the 2025 Rappaport Art Prize.

A light reception before the lecture will begin at 6pm. The lecture will begin promptly at 6:30pm.

    About the Artist:

A Boston based artist, Alison Croney Moses creates wooden objects that reach out to your senses—the smell of cedar, the color of honey or the deep blue sea, the round form that signifies safety and warmth, the gentle curve that beckons to be touched.

Born and raised in North Carolina (USA), by Guyanese parents, making clothing, food, furniture, and art is embedded in her memories of childhood. She carries these values and habits into adulthood and parenting—creating experiences, conversations, and educational programs that cultivate the current and next generation of artists and leaders in art and craft. Her work is in the collections at Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She is a recipient of the 2023 Boston Artadia Award, the2022 USA Fellowship in Craft, and a finalist of the 2024 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize. Her work has been featured in American Craft Magazine Boston Art Review. She was recently named one of the 2023 WBUR 10 Makers. In the Fall of 2023, Alison’s first solo was reviewed in the Boston Globe. Alison holds an MA in Sustainable Business & Communities from Goddard College, and a BFA in Furniture Design from Rhode Island School of Design.

    About the Rappaport Art Prize:

Created in 2000 and endowed in 2010, the Rappaport Art Prize is presented to a contemporary artist with strong connections to New England and a proven record of achievement. The Rappaport Prize is one of the most generous contemporary art awards of its kind. In 2010, the Prize was endowed in perpetuity by the Phyllis and Jerome Lyle Rappaport Foundation, assuring the ongoing support of contemporary art and artists in New England. In 2022, the foundation increased the award to an unrestricted gift of $50,000.

We are pleased to announce that ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation will be available for the Rappaport Lecture. If you or a guest require ASL interpretation, please let us know in advance so we can reserve seats that provide the best visibility of the interpreters. Please email mnelson@thetrustees.org.
