About the show: Celebrating craft in a league of its own, this exhibition showcases an exciting cross-section of Furniture Masters working throughout the region today. Most of the work is new and on public view for the very first time. Admire beautiful furniture crafted with great care, time, and expertise. Experience a tradition that shaped the region’s artistic heritage. Step into a future full of innovation, talent, and collaboration.
Joined Together: 30 years of the Furniture Masters is supported by Banks Chevrolet-Cadillac-Buick-GMC, Jameson French/Northland Forest Products, Inc, Betsy & Ralph Holmes, and Susan & John Lynch.
About the artists:
The Furniture Masters continue the proud New England tradition of fine furniture making while also trailblazing a new model of artistic collaboration.
Their members come from New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont. Some of them grew up in woodshops as part of a family line of fine furniture makers. Others found their way to their artistry as adults. Still others got their start as part of a prison outreach program.
To a person, the Furniture Masters demonstrate exceptional craft, mastery, and attention to detail. As a collective, they demonstrate that there is no one way to be a furniture master.
Why now:
The Furniture Masters mark their 30th anniversary this year. It is a pivotal moment for the group as they build on a legacy of exceptional craftmanship and keep evolving.
The Currier collection reflects New England’s heritage of fine furniture making. Unlike other museums, the Currier has never distinguished between art and craft, creating space for the region’s artisans to be admired as great artists. The Furniture Masters exhibition continues that story.
