At the last FIG meeting someone mentioned using grain alcohol as solvent for their shellac, so they could "drink the leftovers". Recently ran across the German phrase "Hast du Lack gesoffen?" (Have you been imbibing lacquer/varnish/paint?)
So there's that. ;)
