An EMGW Potpourri

The meeting on October 11, 2025 will take on a different format to replace the original topic.  The start of the meeting will begin the same way with a social period followed by business news.  However, the normal presentation of two plus hours on a topic will be replaced with a panel of EMGW members specially selected for discussing topics familiar to them and informative to the audience.  This format has been considered for a long time and now due to unfortunate and dreadful circumstances of the stroke to original presenter Joe van Benten, the guild has decided it's time.

As an editorial aside, this is a testament to the versatility and volunteer spirit of Guild members. Within just a few days of learning about Joe's stroke, people stepped up to make suggestions, find a venue, offer to speak, and organize this program.

The meeting location is Wolf Tree Wood, a vendor of wood slabs, at 77 Methuen Street, Dracut, MA 01826.  More about WTW and its founder and EMGW member Sean Harrington can be found at https://wolftreewood.com/.

Here's the lineup, with Guild members presenting for approximately 30 minutes each:

  1. After coffee and socializing, we'll have a short business meeting.
  2. Sean Harrington, owner of Wolf Tree Wood will offer a brief explanation of the process of harvesting and preparing massive wood slabs.
  3. Dan Sichel, will discuss his recent SAPFM Pins and Tails article "The Precious Nail," about the economic history of "the humble nail," and what it can teach us about key long-term economic trends.
  4. James Goodwin will elaborate on his June 2025 Featured Piece of the Month article "The Clock."
  5. Jim Russel will demonstrate how he makes a scratch stock, a simple traditional shop-made tool useful for beading, reeding, and other decorative elements.
  6. (Time Permitting) open Q&A.

Due to the lack of Wifi at the meeting site, our crack video team will record the session, but won't be able to offer a Zoom option.

Seating is limited so bring a folding chair.

Plenty of parking space is available.

Coffee willl be available for $2, and a group will venture off in search of lunch after the meeting.
