April Member Participation Meeting

Covid 19 once again caused a cancellation of our original long planned formal speaker’s program. We’re now going to meet in person and it’s a good opportunity to get to know other members of the Guild. The April meeting will be at Guild President Tim Holiner’s shop (40 Donnelly Drive, Dover) and will have three parts:

1). Auction. After two years alone, lots of us have collected treasures in our shops that we no longer need or are slightly used.  Please bring them to the meeting and we’ll auction them off to the highest bidder. Ideally, all the money raised will go to the Guild but if there is a minimum you need to encourage submission, we can work that out. We need lots of participants, both sellers and bidders, to make this fun. Jim Tartaglia has offered his auctioneering skills.

2). Show and Tell. Last year we had a Zoom show and tell but virtually is never as good as being able to see in person the details of a project as well as the ability to touch and feel a surface. We may also have another show and tell opportunity at the end of year meeting in June.

3). Mortise and Tenon Demo’s: Mortise and tenon joints can be made using all kinds of techniques and tools and we all may have our favorite methods. Most of these are well described in numerous books, articles and videos. We’ll have a few more uncommon methods demonstrated – The PantoRouter, the Leigh Mortise and Tenon jig, the Festool Domino loose tenon machine and Hollow chisel mortiser and any other methods someone would like to share.

I have received a number of comments about how to manage Covid19 concerns. These range from "Let's get back to normal" and "If we're all vaccinated, no masks are needed" to "Wearing a mask is no big deal" and "If a mask gets more people to attend, I've got no problem with that". I'm a broken record but, again with an abundance of caution and given the older demographics of our members and likely their significant others (and unvaccinated children/grandchildren), we will use the same pre-registration system as for the recent March meeting. This requires attendees to affirm they have been vaccinated and agree to wearing a mask.

Having a good meeting depends on volunteer participation – Let me know how you can help.
