Ellen Kaspern

I started out woodworking in my father’s shop. I can still remember standing on a bucket at the bandsaw at a very young age. After college & graduate school I decided to pursue a career in furniture making. I attended the North Bennet Street School in Boston. I am a 2003 graduate of their Cabinet & Furniture Making program. In 2004 I joined the cooperative Fort Point Cabinetmakers where was a member for 15 years. I am currently a member at Charlestown Furniture Makers where I design & build custom furniture, built-ins and small objects.

I teach furniture making and woodworking at the North Bennet Street School in Boston. I am an adjunct instructor in their Cabinet & Furniture Making program and am a woodworking instructor in the Continuing Education program. I teach woodworking techniques at various schools on the east coast as well. I have written articles and blog posts for Fine Woodworking Magazine and my lessons are featured in instructional videos for their website.

I have given woodworking demonstrations and talks at the National Museum of Industrial History, Society of Arts & Crafts, Old Sturbridge Village, Concord Museum, Peabody Essex Museum, Plimoth Plantation, Boston Society of Architects, along with other institutions in the New England area.

My work has been shown at Boston Athenaeum (Boston, MA), Society of Arts & Crafts (Boston, MA), Fruitlands Museum (Harvard, MA), Peters Valley School of Craft (Layton, NJ), Gallery 263 (Cambridge, MA), Pearl Street Gallery (Chelsea, MA), Mosesian Center for the Arts (Watertown, MA), The Umbrella Gallery (Concord, MA) and Windgate Gallery at NBSS (Boston, MA).
