Will Neptune, master craftsman and teacher, winner of the Cartouche Award from the Society of American Period Furniture Makers, former instructor at North Bennett Street School, and a favorite presenter of the Guild will demonstrate hinge selection and installation.
Each type of hinge has layout and cutting strategies, but first you need to understand how it behaves when opening and closing. It is important to know how to draft and test the action of a hinge before starting to build a piece. Will plans to cover butt hinges for doors and boxes, drop-leaf, card table and slant top desk hinges. Each one of these has a trick that may not be obvious the first time you try it.
